When Aliens Attack

I recently watched all of the Farscape DVDs in order. Quite a fascinating show, if uneven at times. Late into the second or third season, don't exactly remember which, there is a scene where the villain threatens the hero with attacking his homeplanet (the hero being a human tossed out in a far away part of the galaxy, the homeplanet Earth being otherwise unaware of either his fate or the probable impending doom). And somehow that scene made me chuckle.

Just image aliens showing up at out doorstep and attacking. Not before stating that this is all the result of some insignificant(at least to Earth) guy who pissed off the wrong people: "He called me an idiot. For that I will now annihilate your planet!". I'm sure his parents would be proud.

One thing lead to another and I started out thinking about idiotic reasons why aliens would destroy our planet. A certain episode of Futurama came to mind, seeing as though our television and radio shows are being broadcast into space. In that episode aliens were attacking due to the cancellation of one of their favourite TV shows. Imagine a gooey creature from outer space blowing up L.A. or some other major city just because it can't revel in its couch-potato status anymore.

But the most hilarious reason yet, quite clever actually, and entirely for satirical reasons must be the one from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. To make room for an intergalactic motorway. Yes, that's correct, we're a minuscule spot on the galaxy map and a motorway is far more important.

However cliched it is, I'd rather hear the old "We come in peace!" line any day of the week (as long as it doesn't come from Tim Burton's martians).
